HRS homerun
App, WebApp, CMS and sleepless nights
Interaction Design

Thanks to the HRS Homerun app, homeowners can maintain a complete overview of their property around the clock. All documents, contacts, and information are conveniently stored in one centralized location, easily accessible at any time.

The Task & Requirements
The original task seemed simple enough: “Could you please create a UI for the HRS app? We need it for a presentation. Here are some wireframes we've already worked out. Just give them a HRS look for the presentation.”

A few weeks after the presentation, came the surprise: “Now you have to create all screens and the rest of the app.”

Just as I was about to finish the screens, came the shock: “We won't use an existing CMS. We will develop it from scratch. You must think about the functionalities and design of the CMS.”

The last two requests were the cherry on top: “Please design a WebApp and a promotional page for the app.”
My Contribution
My primary contribution involved creating various user interfaces and explaining their functionalities to the GateB Team in India. At some point, I received the means to create documentation, which was very satisfying work.

The biggest challenge I faced was producing these UIs solely based on my experience with apps and content management systems. While designing the app felt intuitive, elaborating the CMS was nerve-wracking.

App Page:
The HRS Homerun App has two main stages. In the initial stage, the app assists the homeowner in preparing for the move and guides them through the “Entscheidungsliste”. Here, the owner compiles materials related to their home and coordinates appointments with construction partners. Once the owner moves into their flat, the app transitions to the second stage, functioning as a comprehensive library comprised of contracts, documents, contacts, and inventory.
Creating a CMS from scratch was an immense challenge. However, my previous experience with publishing platforms like WordPress, Craft CMS, Sitecore, and Storyblok really paid off. They served as my main sources of inspiration.
Designing the WebApp was the easiest task.
Look Back & Learnings
This was a very stressful project, not because of tight deadlines, but mostly because I felt lost and left alone. Throughout this project, I strongly felt the absence of a Product Owner who could have kept it under control and within boundaries. Constantly changing requirements and scope mutations were the negative aspects from which I learned the most. From then on, I started to challenge every briefing I received.

However, a few months after my work was completed, Malena the Key Account Manager/Product Owner joined the team. Thanks to her, the app and the overall environment were drastically improved. Now, I hope that a second release will happen in the near future.
